About the Club
Mountain Tigers Basketball Club is one of the largest and most progressive clubs in the Knox Association. It is the result of a merger between Belgrave Panthers, Tecoma Raptors and St Thomas More's Spartans.
The three former clubs were all financially sound and well run clubs. Belgrave and Tecoma were medium sized clubs in terms of team numbers whilst St. Thomas More’s, being a primary school based club, was relatively small. The merger can about because the three clubs recognized that their proximity to each other meant that they were constantly competing against each other for players and that this was restricting each clubs ability to field well balanced teams across all grades. Nowhere was this more apparent than at the upper end of the scale where representative players in particular would often transfer to larger clubs that could regularly field A grade teams.
Mountain Tigers now has a strong player roster witnessed by the fact that in our first season almost half of the teams that made finals were A or AR grade. This alone has justified the decision to merge.
The club has sound administration with written policy, procedure and job description for all key areas of its operation. We have a coaching co-ordinator who is developing a program to ensure consistency in the way in which the children are taught the basics of the game. There is a fundamental club offence and defence which, whilst not restricting individual coaches in any way, provides a degree of continuity for players as they move up through age groups and grades.
We would also like to develop the social aspect of the club however more man power is needed at this time to do this. In fact, there are several areas where help is needed and in many cases this will not require too much commitment in time. If you are a current member who would like to help out we would love to hear from you.
If you are viewing this site for the first time and are looking for somewhere for you child to play basketball then speak to one of our age group co-ordinators and come along to a training session. You will be made most welcome and will see for yourself why we believe we are one of the most progressive and best run clubs around.
